Colonial Style

The challenges in the design of this new residence included the narrowness of the property, which with setbacks allowed for 30 ft of building width, a rather large program (5 bedrooms, 3 car garage etc.) and an appropriate scale for the neighborhood. The concept for the resulting 5,000 square foot residence was rather simple, turn the house sideways. A long gallery/hallway along one side serves living spaces along the other side, and terminates in the rear of the house with a cluster of family spaces bordering a densely wooded area. The stair tower, bays and arbor are intended as simple scaling elements, with the front terrace capitalizing on the sunniest spot, and making a neighborly gesture as well.
